Our Tree Plantation Drives in Nagpur and Pune

Earthxway Foundation is a tree plantation NGO with its head office in Nagpur and a hub in Wagholi, Pune. We run plantation drives with schools, housing societies, community groups and volunteers across both regions. So far we've planted more than 55,700 trees. This post covers our recent drives in Pune and in Nagpur and the wider Vidarbha region, how a drive works, and how you can volunteer, donate or bring a drive to your school, society or company.

Drives at a Glance

  • Green School project (Satav Patil High School, Wagholi, Pune): 150 trees. First school completed under our Green School project.

Tree Plantation in Pune

Our Pune work is run from our hub on Baif Road, Wagholi. Wagholi is one of the fastest-growing parts of eastern Pune, and new housing has brought a real need for green cover, shade and cleaner air. Most of our Pune drives are in and around Wagholi, with schools and housing societies as partners. For more on planting with us in the city, see tree plantation in Pune.

Satav Patil High School, Wagholi: 150 Trees

Satav Patil High School in Wagholi is the first school to complete our Green School project, with 150 trees planted under the project. The Green School Certification Program aims to turn schools into climate-resilient campuses through geo-tagged sapling tracking, eco-clubs, composting and student-led environmental leadership. It gives students a hands-on way to learn why trees and native species matter. Read more about the programme in Building Future Climate Leaders.

Silver Spring Apartment, Wagholi: 100 Trees

At Silver Spring Apartment in Wagholi, residents and their children planted more than 100 native saplings in a community drive completed in 2026. Earthxway Foundation provided the saplings and plantation kits. Residents gave their time and effort to prepare the site, plant and look after the trees afterwards. It's a model that works well in housing societies. The society brings the people and the space, and we bring the saplings, know-how and planning. You can see the project on our Impact Map.

Warje, Pune: 70 Trees on Independence Day

On 15 August 2026, we planted 70 trees in Warje, on the western side of Pune, together with Nisarga Seva Sanstha. Marking Independence Day by planting trees gave the day a lasting meaning, and the drive shows what local groups and Earthxway Foundation can do together.

Eco-Ponds in Wagholi

Alongside planting, we're also creating eco-ponds with native aquatic plants in Wagholi to restore small wetland habitats for amphibians and insects. This project is ongoing.

Tree Plantation in Nagpur and Vidarbha

Our head office is in Chinchbhuan, Nagpur, and it's the base for our work across Vidarbha and beyond. Vidarbha's hot summers, drought-prone farmland and fast-growing towns make native tree cover especially valuable here: it gives shade, holds soil in place and helps rainwater soak into the ground. To plan a drive in the region, see tree plantation in Nagpur.

Community Drives in Tiroda, Kalimati and Krishnapuri

Our recent community drives include 20 trees in Tiroda (Gondia district), 50 trees in Kalimati and 50 trees in Krishnapuri, Nanded. These are smaller drives, but they matter. Each one adds native trees where they're needed and builds local relationships for the next drive.

Larger Programmes in the Region

Several of our bigger programmes are based in Vidarbha:

  • The Vidarbha Farmer Support Program near Nagpur offers sustainable farming training and organic seed distribution for cotton farmers in the drought-prone region. It's listed with 20,000 trees on our projects page.
  • The Green Minds School Challenge 2026 extends our Green School work to schools across Gondia district. It combines drawing and writing competitions with tree plantation on school campuses, and it's listed with 5,000 trees. It's ongoing.
  • The Green Employment Mission for Women in Tiroda helps rural women build climate-positive livelihoods through self-help groups.

All of these are on our projects page.

How a Plantation Drive Works

Every site is different, but our drives follow the same basic steps:

  1. Pick the site with the community. We look for land where the trees will be protected and cared for, such as a school campus, a society's open space or a public area with local permission.
  2. Choose native species. We plant local, native species suited to the soil and climate of each site, because they survive better and support local wildlife.
  3. Prepare the site. Pits are dug and the ground is prepared before the drive, so the planting day itself runs smoothly.
  4. Plant together. Volunteers, students and residents plant the saplings with guidance from our team.
  5. Care and track. Local partners help water and protect the young trees. For our school and adoption programmes, saplings are geo-tagged so their progress can be followed.

Why Plant Trees in Nagpur and Pune?

Both cities are growing fast. In Pune's new suburbs, such as Wagholi, construction often leaves very little green space. In Nagpur and across Vidarbha, intense summer heat makes shade and tree cover a real need. A single native tree absorbs roughly 22 kg of CO₂ a year once it's established. It also cools the area around it, filters dust and gives birds and insects a home. Every drive also connects people with the trees in their own neighbourhood, which is what keeps those trees alive.
